Drake and Future are not settling their feud, says Akademiks: “That is 100 per cent cap”

"There's a reason why Drake hasn't commented [and] Future hasn't commented because it ain't true"

Drake and Future are reportedly not rekindling their friendship and have not attempted to do so, according to DJ Akademiks.

Last week, esteemed hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson said had “good authority” that Drake and Future had spoken on the phone to try and resolve their differences on the latest episode of his The Bigger Picture podcast.

However, longtime Drake associate DJ Akademiks denied this claim in a recent livestream.

“Big shoutout to my man Elliott Wilson, but – with all due respect – I’ve spoken to extremely credible sources on both sides and Drake and Future [have] not been on the phone,” the media personality said to his audience.

He continued: “So, not too sure who gave Elliott Wilson the authority to say this but, from what I hear, that is not true. That is 100 per cent cap. Now, I’m not gonna say Elliott Wilson is contorting or misrepresenting facts but, whoever his source is – from what I’ve heard – that source ain’t telling the right thing.”

He added: “While it sounds great and all the media outlets have reprinted it, there’s a reason why Drake hasn’t commented [and] Future hasn’t commented because it ain’t true.”

Akademiks ended by hoping the duo would reunite because “we still need ‘What A Time To Be Alive [Two]'”.

Drake and Future haven’t made it publicly known why they fell out. However, many suggested their friendship changed ever since Drake failed to appear in the music video for the remix of the Atlanta rapper’s 2011 trap classic ‘Tony Montana’. The two then reconciled and released the highly-acclaimed mixtape, 2015’s ‘What a Time to Be Alive’. Drake revealed earlier this year that Future was also meant to feature on his hit ‘Hotline Bling’ around that time.

They kept a united front by releasing other highly-praised singles such as ‘Life Is Good’ and ‘Desires’ back in 2020 and the Grammy award-winning ‘WAIT FOR U’ in 2022. Drake even made a guest appearance during Future’s Wireless 2021 performance.

There were rumours that Future wasn’t pleased with Drake’s decision to collaborate with 21 Savage on 2022’s ‘Her Loss’ after the duo hinted that they would release a follow-up to ‘What a Time to Be Alive’ back in 2019.

Additionally, some have speculated Drake indirectly addressed his fallout with Future on his last two albums. On ‘More M’s’ from ‘Her Loss’, the 6God raps: “N****s ain’t got love for the boy, so they fake it / Crack a couple jokes to some bitches on some snake shit / But if I send a verse to they ass, then they’ll take it” – suggesting the rappers fell out because the ‘Mask Off’ star flirted with a girl he was interested in.

Then on ‘What Would Pluto Do’ from his 2023 record ‘For All The Dogs’, Drake stated: “What would Pluto do? He’d fuck the hoe, so I did it / What would Pluto do? He definitely fuckin’ on this hoe, yeah” – referring to Future by his nickname and bragging about having sexual relations with the same woman as him.

The feud intensified back in March when Future and Metro Boomin dropped their long-awaited joint album, ‘We Don’t Trust You’. Throughout the album, Future and other contributors sent subtle shots at Drake – most notably Kendrick Lamar on ‘Like That’, which became the catalyst for his high-profile rap battle with the ‘God’s Plan’ rapper this summer.

Two weeks ago, Young Thug – prior to his recent release from prison last Thursday (October 31)called for Future, Drake and Metro Boomin to put aside their differences. “@Drake @1future @MetroBoomin we all bruddas. Music ain’t the same without us collabin,” he wrote to X/Twitter.

At the time of writing, Drake nor Future has confirmed the status of their friendship.

In other news, Drake is currently under fire for not attending his mentor Lil Wayne’s Weezyana festival over the weekend and, instead, going to a basketball game where he seemed to get into a spat with Sacramento Kings player DeMar DeRozan.

Meanwhile, Future recently dropped ‘Mixtape Pluto’ – his 17th mixtape and first one in eight years.
