Jeff Lynne’s ELO to play ‘legends’ slot at Glastonbury Festival 2016

Group follow on from Lionel Richie last year

ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) have been confirmed for the ‘legends’ slot at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The ‘legends’ slot takes place each year during the Sunday afternoon on the Pyramid Stage. Previous acts to play the slot include Dolly Parton, Shirley Bassey and last year, Lionel Richie.

Now known as Jeff Lynne’s ELO, the band’s latest album ‘Alone In The Universe’ was released in November 2015, reaching Number Four in the UK Albums Chart.

The Glastonbury announcement was made on BBC Radio 2 earlier today (February 1) and later confirmed by organiser Emily Eavis.

Eavis wrote on Twitter: “Yes! ELO are playing this year’s Glastonbury Sunday teatime slot. Can’t wait!”

ELO enjoyed a run of 27 Top 40 hits from 1972 to 1986, when Lynne retired the group. He reactivated the ELO name, with a different line-up, for the 2001 album ‘Zoom’.
