‘Pokémon’ fan remakes ‘TCG Pocket’ in classic Game Boy style

Can you feel the nostalgia?

Redditor Deikar has shared an image of their pixel art rendition of the Pokémon TCG Pocket title screen, and fans are loving it.

Pokémon got its start on the original Game Boy back in the ’90s, and now its latest iteration is a mobile version of the trading card game that launched October 30, and it’s already on track to eclipse Pokémon Go.

Deikar recreated the title screen which shows three card packs, one with a Mewtwo, one with a Charizard, and one with a Pikachu, all iconic Pokémon from the franchise. The colourful, pixelated ‘mons are reminiscent of the style the games had back when they were on Game Boy.

Deikar wrote: “Made a little pixel art mockup of the screen we all see everyday, using the Gameboy booster packs as a basis and the sprites from the games.

“Years ago I made a similar mockup for Pokémon Go when it came out so it felt appropriate, but as I was doing the full screen I realized the main screen is kinda way too empty so it doesn’t translate that well to pixel art. If you all like it I may end up doing a full mockup of a match scene!”

Marx_Forever replied: “This is incredible. It’s bittersweet though, whenever I see stuff like this it pains me that we never got the sequel to the TCG for Game Boy in English.”

In other news, God Of War and Star Wars Outlaws have both been nominated for Grammy Awards for their soundtracks.
